Why “Poppies & Roses”?

You may be wondering, “Why would she name her photography business “Poppies & Roses?”

My beautiful daughter, Olivia Rose was born on Remembrance Day. Poppies, as you already know, are the symbol for Remembrance day due to the poem “In Flander’s Fields”.

My Father, who passed in July, held Remembrance Day dear to his heart. As every year passed, he never missed a ceremony. I was reminded of the significance of Olivia’s birthday when I was emailing my Dad’s cousin Mitch a little while after she was born.

My Mother grows poppies in her garden and I reminisce fondly of a summer’s day where we photographed the poppies together, as she worked on her garden. She also grows yellow roses in front of her house. I have always admired her green thumb.

When I was a young girl, I would visit my Father in July, every summer. I have a memory in my heart of a day where we pruned roses together. Roses are a symbol I hold dear to my heart because of my memories of both of my parents planting them in their gardens, which is why we gave our daughter the middle name “Rose”.

So, there you have it! The meaning behind Poppies & Roses is very sentimental, and as always, family oriented. My family is my priority above all else.
